    S'mores Trail Mix

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This crispy, crunchy s'mores trail mix combines everything you love about s'mores without any mess or need for a campfire. Toss it together for a quick camping snack for the kiddos, put out a bowl for a party treat, or nosh on it during movie night.

Two jars filled with Golden Grahams, chocolate cookies, mini marshmallows, and chocolate chips.

The combination of graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows is a classic for a reason, and s'more-inspired desserts are probably one of the first things that you think of when it comes to camping food. For good reason, too. They're delicious, and you can have them in so many forms, like s'more nachos, campfire cones, and, of course, the classic version.

However, you're not going to be able to build a fire, toast a marshmallow, assemble s'mores, and clean up in under 5 minutes. So, when you want a quick and easy snack or dessert that delivers those familiar flavors with none of the mess, fire building, or clean-up, this easy s'mores mix is perfect.

Why This Recipe is Great for Camping

    • You can toss it together in less than 5 minutes.
    • It works perfectly as a portable snack or dessert when you don't have access to a fire for making actual s'mores.
    • It's a nut-free trail mix, so it's suitable for people with nut allergies.
    • Kids love them!

    Ingredients and Substitutions

Ingredients for s'mores trail mix--marshmallows, chocolate cookies, chocolate chips, graham cereal.
    • Cereal--Golden Grahams cereal works best here to deliver that crunchy graham cracker flavor and texture, but you could substitute a similar cereal. For a sweeter, cinnamon-flavored snack mix, try Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
    • Chocolate cookies--Most supermarkets carry some type of animal-shaped chocolate cookie. Teddy Grahams or Annie's are popular choices that will work here. You can use a honey-flavored cookie, if you prefer.
    • Chocolate chips--I use semi-sweet chocolate chips for the trail mix, which helps keep the sweetness level down, but milk chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips will work.
    • Mini marshmallows--Stick with the mini sized ones here, but feel free to swap in the colorful ones, if you prefer.

    FAQs

How long does the s'mores mix stay fresh?

Unfortunately, the mini marshmallows go stale pretty quickly. Stored properly, it will only stay fresh for about 24 hours before the marshmallows start to get tough. If you want to get ahead, you can prep the remaining ingredients up to 5 days in advance and toss in the marshmallows shortly before serving.

What's the best way to store it?

Keep the Golden Grahams snack mix in sealed containers or zip-top bags in a cool place.

    Tips and Troubleshooting

    • Keep your s'mores trail mix in a cool place out of direct sunlight or you'll have a sticky, gooey mess.
